Kagawa University

Characteristics

SC EN AG
Through world-class education and research activities, we train creative and humane professionals and researchers, lead local communities, and contribute to the realization of a symbiotic society.
Agriculture is a comprehensive science with life, environment and food as the key words.
The Faculty of Agriculture of Kagawa University covers a wide range of basic research fields, including not only conventional agriculture, but also applied research, such as improving the productivity of agricultural products, product processing and biological production, and related social principles and environmental protection.
Agriculture is a field related to life, biological resources, environment and food. It is one of the "life science" fields of education and research from genes to individuals.

Applied Life Science Course

The Department of Applied Biological Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Kagawa University has established the following five specialized education courses (advanced life sciences, agriscience, field environment, biomolecular chemistry, and food science) covering a wide range of fields related to our lives in general. We have organized a step-by-step educational program in which each student selects the specialty they want to study one by one.
After graduating from the course education, students choose one of the 60 or so laboratories to work on a research project and acquire specialized problem-solving skills. In addition, the graduate school's master's course and the United Agricultural Science doctoral course are also in place, and each student is sent out to society as a highly specialized human resource. If you are interested in life, biological resources, the environment, food, and food, why don't you study and grow together at the Faculty of Agriculture, Kagawa University? We welcome those who aim to become world-class researchers and engineers!
■ Advanced Life Science Course
Due to the remarkable development of life science and biotechnology in recent years, it has become possible to elucidate and utilize life phenomena and functions of organisms at the genome, gene, and protein levels. In the Advanced Life Science Course, students study the basics of life science, which is the molecular (gene, protein) level analysis of various life activities from microorganisms to higher animals and plants, and use the results to develop useful organisms and effectively utilize biological resources You can learn a wide range of applied techniques for
■ Agriscience course
Aiming at the safe and stable food supply required for the development of a prosperous society and the production and development of horticultural resources that bring richness to life, evaluation and breed improvement of genetic resources, sustainable production management technology and production environment analysis, Students learn a wide range of practical knowledge, from field technology to life science knowledge, such as product distribution and utilization systems. In addition, we have a unique educational system that allows students to systematically study the theory of agriscience from basics to applications, and to verify their own through collaborative experiments and practical training in the field.
■ Field environment course
Students will learn about the interaction between organisms and the environment, and the circulation of substances in the environment. In particular, we will focus on satoumi, satoyama, and familiar waterfronts, and use methods and theories from various fields, including chemical and biological methods, to conduct research and analysis in the field and in laboratories. In addition, students acquire the ability to practically address environmental issues and the use, management, and conservation of living things.
■ Biomolecular Chemistry Course
Living organisms produce a wide variety of molecules (organic compounds) and use them for self-defense and communication with others. In the Biomolecular Chemistry Course, through the exploration, structural analysis, chemical synthesis, and analysis of the mechanism of action of these molecules, you will understand the survival strategies of organisms in the natural world. , food, and other fields.
■ Food Science Course
We will develop human resources who can scientifically understand the functionality, safety, and palatability of food, understand the physiological regulation function of food, and develop safe, delicious, and highly functional food.
The Faculty of Agriculture (https://www.ag.kagawa-u.ac.jp/) has only one department, the Department of Applied Biological Sciences, and adopts a course system. After enrollment, all students first take introductory subjects and common basic subjects to acquire the basics of biological science. During this period, students will be able to grasp the direction and aptitude of their own studies, and from the second year onwards, they will choose five courses: "Advanced Life Science Course," "Agriscience Course," "Field Environment Course," "Bio-Molecular Chemistry Course," and "Food Science Course." Students are divided into courses and take specialized subjects to systematically complete their studies.
